Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy work modality that originated in Japan. Literally translated it mean universal life force energy (Rei = universe or spirit, ki = life force energy).
Reiki is an infusion of divine LOVE, from the universe, through me, to you.
When you receive the energy of reiki, it helps return your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies to their natural state of balance. This can greatly relieve both the causes and symptoms of stress, as well as increasing your intuitive knowledge and shifting perceptions of yourself, relationships, habits and patterns, helping you release that which no longer serves.
Reiki is an intuitive healing art, which means no two sessions are alike, and each practitioner will bring their own unique approach to their sessions.
What is Pranic Healing?
Pranic Healing is an energy work modality from the Ayurvedic tradition of India. Prana is life force energy, and just like reiki, pranic healing is focused on returning the physical and auric bodies to their natural balance by channeling healing love and healing light to the recipient.
This technique follows a more structured approach to directing energy to the recipient, with sessions generally following the same pattern each time.
Who should try it?
Short answer - Everyone!
But seriously, if you're feeling overwhelmed by the state of the world, or just what's happening with you, Reiki can help.
Got headaches? Anxiety? Chronic pain? Depression? Insomnia? Feeling stuck in life/work/relationships? Reiki can help with all of that and more.
Feeling great already? Awesome! Reiki can help take it up a notch to help you feel more energized, focused, and self-aware.
Energy work can relieve stress and pain, increase relaxation, improve sleep, balance the subtle body energies, assist in releasing mental and emotional patterns that no longer serve, and it's a great complimentary treatment with modern medicine and therapy. I've experienced all that since I started practicing Reiki!

So what does a session look like?
Before you arrive, consider if there is anything specific you want to address, or any intentions for the energy you will be receiving. You can share as much or as little of that with me as you’d like, if you are holding those needs or intentions in yourself, the energy will find its way there. It’s also fine to simply arrive open to energy working in the highest good.
Drink plenty of water and eat a light meal a few hours before the session, so you will be as comfortable as possible and not distracted by hunger or thirst. You’ll also want to use the restroom before we begin.
Dress comfortably (you will have your clothes on during the session), and if you are doing a remote appointment, prepare a comfortable space to rest during the session. If we are meeting in person, you’ll be on a treatment table, and you will have the option to cover up with a blanket.
We will start off by checking in, and I'll answer any questions you might have. You can choose how the energy comes to your body - touch, no touch or a combination, all are equally effective.
During the session, silence your phone and minimize distractions as much as possible. You are welcome bring your own music, listen to my meditation tunes, or just enjoy the silence.
During the session, you may experience a variety of sensations, ranging from nothing at all, to waves of emotions, sleepiness, energy surges, tingling or warmth, or deep relaxation and peace. Your experience may vary from session to session.
After doing any type of energy work it’s important to hydrate, I’ll give you some water (or fill up your bottle for you), and you should drink a little more water than usual. Energy work is often hungry work, so listen to your body and choose a healthy snack or meal afterward. Dark chocolate is always a helpful treat!
Your body will be busy integrating all the energy you receive, which can be tiring or energizing, but since experiences vary, try to give yourself at least a little time after your appointment where you don’t have to do anything. I recommend taking 15-20 minutes (or longer) after the session to meditate, lie down, go for a walk in nature or even take a nap. Let your body guide you to how best to integrate the energy. Doing some grounding work can also be helpful, so find a tree to hug, or hang on to your potted plants. Dancing around the living room, taking a shower, or just sitting with your feet on the earth can all help.
Most people have an overwhelmingly positive experience with energy work, but because it works very deeply on all levels of our body - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, it can also bring up negative thoughts and feelings, physical discomfort, cold or flu-like symptoms, or similar unpleasant experiences. These are usually very short lived, and will pass on their own as the energy continues to shift and integrate. If you are struggling with any aspect of the process, please let me know as soon as possible, I am available for additional support as needed.
