Election Season + The Holidays
Ah, the holidays approach, and so too, the mid-term elections.
Shit.
If that’s how you’re feeling right now, you’re not alone. I was right there with you a couple elections ago.
Picture it, rural Northern California, the fall of 2015. I moved home with my tiny trailer to my tiny home town. Housing is not plentiful here, so I was staying with my parents.
Let’s just say that my parents and I don’t exactly see eye to eye on politics or current events. Like, ever.
It was that year. The long, drawn out election season. And it was rough. Thanksgiving was *brutal* and included being angrily shouted down by extended family members about how wrong I was about everything from my diet to my politics.
Not exactly inspiring of an attitude of gratitude.
If this move was going to work something had to change.
Something was me.
I signed up for a Reiki supported group coaching program, and started receiving energy healing while doing the work of healing myself with a lot of support from other on the same path. It was intense and amazing.
It did NOT change my living situation, or the political leanings of any of my family members. But doing the work, and receiving Reiki did shift my perspectives, and gave me the peace of mind to set boundaries, and prioritize my own needs, which was huge.
By the following Thanksgiving, I was able to give myself space to spend the day with other family members in a much more relaxed environment, and appreciate that it’s okay if we don’t all agree, but I don’t have to argue or be shouted at because of that.
It’s still a process enjoying the holidays with family, especially in an election cycle (plus everything else going on in the world), but when I am taking care of my needs first, it’s much easier have #EaseAndFlow where there used to be conflict.
Reiki is a big part of filling my cup, I’d love to share that with you. If your holiday season could use a shift, book yourself a session and see what Reiki can do for you.
